New Delhi: Even though Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue’ that was released in theatres on October 6 and has not received an overwhelming response at the box office, the makers have independently submitted the movie for Oscars 2024.
The film features Akshay Kumar in the role of Jaswant Singh Gill, a real-life hero who saved 65 miners stuck inside a flooded coal mine in West Bengal’s Raniganj back in 1989.
The makers of the movie have now submitted it to the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences, the body responsible for awarding the Oscars. However, being an independent submission, ‘Mission Raniganj’ will not be eligible to compete for the Best Foreign Film Award.
