Mumbai: It’s been a week since Team India broke the World Cup drought by lifting the coveted T20 trophy at Bridgetown’s Kensington Oval.
And once the men in blue returned home with the Cup after being held up for three days due to Hurricane Beryl, the country welcomed them warmly.
Despite a 16-hour flight from Barbados to Delhi, the players spent the whole of Thursday in soaking up the love, adulation and felicitations in the nation’s Capital and Mumbai.
The day after, a special treat awaited three of the World Cup-winning heroes as captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) and Hardik Pandya were honoured by the Ambani family during the Sangeet ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant.
The Mumbai Indians trio, looking smart in black attire, were received by Nita Ambani.
After a pooja, Nita welcomed her ‘Mumbai Indians family’ on stage and lauded each of the three players for their wonderful achievement as the other guests – who were there for the Sangeet ceremony – cheered and applauded with ‘Lehra do’ playing in the background.

Mumbai Indians’ decision to bring back Pandya from Gujarat Titans and hand him the IPL captaincy at Rohit’s expense surprised the cricket fraternity and led to a lot of heartburn among fans.
Hardik was cheered at every venue where Mumbai Indians played. He didn’t have a good IPL, and Mumbai failed to qualify for the playoffs.
All that was forgotten as every player performed his role to perfection to help India emerge unbeaten champions.
