Cuttack: The death of a patient on Sunday morning at Sun Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack sparked anger among relatives, who alleged negligence in treatment and staged protests.
The patient, Bishnupriya Rout from Barang, was under treatment at the hospital for 14 days. She was admitted at the hospital after suffering injuries in a road accident. Bishnupriya was riding pillion on a two-wheeler when she fell and injured herself.
Angry relatives protested outside the hospital following her death alleging negligence in treatment and demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh.
“It’s a reputed hospital in the heart of Cuttack. That’s why we came here. At 8 am today, the patient’s condition deteriorated. At 11 am, we were told that she had developed heart problems. But despite claiming to offer 24×7 services, they could not provide a cardiologist to attend to her. We will file an FIR,” a relative said.
“There was complete negligence in treatment on the hospital’s part. The hospital wasn’t even willing to discharge her. Though she developed heart problems, an MBBS was called to attend to her. They could not arrange any cardiologist,” alleged another relative.
The relative also complained about rude and bad behaviour by hospital staff.
