One bike was dragged for almost 4 km till Hanspal bridge.
In one of the cars was Sriyam Behera and his family, who were going from the airport to Rasulgarh after arriving from Delhi. In another car was a businessman from Kendrapara and his family.
The accident led to a massive jam on the highway.
On April 4, a government engineer was killed in an accident involving multiple vehicles on NH-16 near Palasuni in Bhubaneswar.
In that accident, a truck and three cars had slowed down to allow people cross the road. But an overloaded and speeding Hyva truck was unable to stop and smashed into one of the cars. Luckily, under the impact of the accident, the car was thrown out of the truck’s way and its occupants had a miraculous escape. But the Hyva truck went on to smash another car, crushing it between the truck that had stopped ahead of it and the Hyva, killing the car’s occupant.
The deceased was identified as Sumanta Das (36) of Aiginia in Bhubaneswar. He was posted at Barachana in Jajpur district as a sub-divisional officer (electrical) and was on his way to office when he was killed.
