Bengaluru: Virat Kohli is one of the most-loved cricketers in India. And in Bengaluru, he’s God for cricket fans, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore right from the inception of IPL in 2008.
On Sunday evening, the master batsman got a chance to roll over his arm as Mohammed Siraj got injured and went off the field, reducing Team India to four specialist bowlers in their final league game of the ODI World Cup.
The showman added to the joy of the capacity crowd at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Diwali night by dismissing Dutch captain Scott Edwards.
Bowling his gentle medium-pace with variations, Kohli bowled one down the legside in his second over, which Edwards tickled to wicketkeeper KL Rahul.
Watch the moment in the video clip which has gone viral on X:
Kohli was over the moon, so were his teammates. But the person who looked to be the happiest was Anushka Sharma.
As the camera panned on her, Kohli’s actress-wife was seen beaming from ear to ear and celebrating with punched fists.
And why won’t she?
It was part-time bowler Kohli’s maiden World Cup victim. Overall, it was his fifth ODI wicket – and the first one after almost nine years. Kohli also has 4 T20 International wickets in his bag.
