Bhubaneswar/Kolkata: Arrested West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee, whose health condition was stated as stable by AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and was advised discharge, is likely to stay at the hospital on Monday night and board a flight to Kolkata on Tuesday morning, it has been learnt from Enforcement Directorate (ED) sources.

After he was advised discharge, Chatterjee was expected to leave AIIMS after 9 pm on Monday and board a late-night flight at around 11 pm for Kolkata. But, according to ED sources, due to unavoidable reasons, Chatterjee will stay at AIIMS on Monday night.

After AIIMS submitted his health report to the Calcutta High Court (HC), the court heard the matter in a virtual hearing.

Chatterjee was on Monday admitted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar after he was brought to Odisha’s capital in an air ambulance by the ED following a Calcutta HC order.

Two counsels representing Chatterjee are also accompanying him, according to media reports.

“He (Partha Chatterjee) was having problems because of his chronic illness. We investigated and the report has been submitted to the High Court. There was not much chest pain. He is in stable condition and will be discharged today,” Dr Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, said earlier.

Earlier in the day, Chatterjee was taken to the Kolkata airport in an ambulance from the state-run SSKM hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. A green corridor was created so that he could reach the airport in 30 minutes, according to reports.

Chatterjee was arrested by the ED in connection with a teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal on Saturday. After he was sent to ED custody, he complained of “uneasiness” and was admitted to SSKM hospital on Saturday evening on a local court’s order.

But the ED approached the Calcutta HC, saying “it was not in accordance with the law”. The HC then directed the ED to shift him to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in an air-ambulance.
