Puri: ‘Beach Connect’ programme took off, here, with various programmes to promote awareness about keeping the golden beach clean and garbage-free.
Organised by Puri Municipality, the programme started at 5.30 am and continued till 6.30 am. Local people and volunteers carried out cleaning drive on the sea beach from Digbareni to Swaragadwar for one hour.
Yoga, beach volleyball, Malkhamb, quiz competition, water sports, fun game for children, tug of war and health check-up were organised as part of the programme. A signature campaign was also carried out at the selfie-point to promote clean and hygienic practices among the tourists and visits to the beach.

Inaugurated by Puri collector Samarth Verma, the programme was attended by government employees, tourists, hoteliers, NGO workers, employees of private sector units, teachers and students of the Pilgirim Town and its nearby areas.
“The initiative aims at promoting awareness among tourists, traders, vendors and local people about keeping the golden beach clean by not resorting to littering and dumping garbage,” said Verma.
The participants in a photo competition held earlier for the ‘Beach Connect’ were given awards at the programme which was coordinated by Saroj Kumar Swain of the municipality. It will be held every alternate Sunday.
