Puri: Three bombs were hurled at the residence of a sarpanch candidate of the ruling BJD in the district on Thursday.
According to sources, some unidentified miscreants hurled the bombs at the residence of the sarpanch candidate in the panchayat elections, Muktikant Panda and fled. While one bomb exploded, nobody was injured in the incident.
The incident took place near a pond in front of Basantei temple at Charinala under Kashiharipur panchayat. On being informed, Puri Sadar police went to the spot and seized the bombs. Later, the unexploded bombs were defused.
The sarpanch candidate told the media that his political rivals might have exploded the bombs. He appealed to other parties not to resort to violence and participate in the democratic process peacefully.
Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said the preliminary investigation into the case has started and the accused will be nabbed soon.
