Malkangiri: The district is reeling under a bone-chilling cold wave this year.
Due to intense fog and cold, visibility has dropped to just a few metres and till 9 in the morning, the sun is hidden behind a thick fog cover. It has become difficult for commuters to walk or drive safely on the roads and school-going children are the worst-hit.
Equally worst-hit are the poor tribals living in huts with thatched roofs. On the other hand, people are also enjoying the weather because Malkangiri is prone to heat waves and high temperatures. This is for the first time that ‘Kashmir-type winter’ is being experienced in the region. Even in winters, it’s never so cold in the district as it is this year.
A local resident and sportsman Rabindra Patra said, “Due to the cold, even the workout schedule has been delayed and we are going out late in the morning.”
Budha Harijan, a local farmer, said, “We have no work in this cold. Even the road is not visible. The elderly in our house are suffering due to the intense weather we are seeing for the first time here.”
