New Delhi: Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh aka Shubh is facing backlash ahead of his concert in Mumbai. Several members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) have alleged that the singer supports separatist Khalistani elements.
“There is no space for Khalistanis who are the enemy of the integrity and unity of India. We won’t allow Canadian singer Shubh to perform in the auspicious land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mumbai. If no proper action is taken, then the organizers will have to face our opposition,” BJYM President Tajinder Singh Tiwana said as quoted by the news portal. BJYM has also demanded the cancellation of Shubh’s shows in India.Shubh is scheduled to perform in Mumbai from September 23 to 25 as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event, organised aboard the Cordelia Cruise. He also has a three-month-long tour in India under which he will be performing in several other cities including New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Members of BJYM recently tore down Shubh’s posters and alleged that the singer supports separatist Khalistani elements. Shubh’s social media post depicting a distorted map of India, omitting Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir has also gone viral, leaving all disappointed. According to a Hindustan Times report, the viral post was shared by Shubh when the Punjab Police was hunting for a fugitive named Amritpal Singh.
Shubh’s songs like “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheaques” are popular in India and other countries. Hindustan Times added that Virat Kohli was also seen grooving to one of Shubh’s songs in a viral video but later unfollowed the singer. Reportedly, cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have also unfollowed Shubh on social media. However, it remains unclear if the cricketers unfollowed Shubh after the whole controversy, the report added.
