Jeypore: Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati on Sunday staged a dharna in front of local police station demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants who had attacked a youth in the town.
According to sources, some miscreants had kidnapped one Kartik Nag of Gopabandhu Nagar on Saturday night. They beat him up mercilessly and also fired at him. Kartik’s family admitted him in local hospital and later shifted him to Koraput Medical College as his condition turned critical.
Kartik’s family filed a complaint at Jeypore Town Police Station in this regard. The police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.
On coming to know about the incident, Congress legislator Bahinipati accompanied by party workers stated a dharna in front of Jeypore Town Police Station.

The party workers also staged a road blockade on National Highway-26 running in front of the police station, leading the vehicles to get stranded on both sides of the NH.
Though police led by Additional SP tried to convince Bahinipati to call off the agitation by assuring him of taking steps in the case, the MLA stated that he would continue his dharna till the accused are arrested.
Alleging that the supporters of ruling BJD were involved in the attack, Bahinipati said the law and order had collapsed in the district.
