Bhubaneswar: Wednesday night saw a police patrolling van chasing three youths, driving an SUV in an inebriated state, in Odisha capital.
According to sources, the PCR team flagged down the vehicle approaching from Nandankanan Road around 1.30 am but they sped away. Then began the 3-km chase from Big Bazaar Square to Damana, where the cops again tried to stop them but in vain. Another PCR team was called in while they followed the vehicle till Patia.
After over 30 minutes, the cops could finally block the vehicle. The occupants were then fined for drunken driving.
In view of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup next month, police have intensified patrolling with night blocking to keep a check on criminals and crimes in the city.
