Puri: Police put a spoke in the wheel, literally, to stop three youths trying to escape their clutches after violating traffic rules at a check post at Goshani Nuagaon overbridge in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to reports, three youths were over speeding on the flyover and not wearing helmets when one of the policemen tried to stop them by showing a stick. The bike riders managed to dodge him but another cop at the other end of the overbridge managed to stick his baton into the wheel. The riders lost balance and fell on the ground.
The injured bikers were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, this action of police has invited criticism. However, Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said the IIC concerned has been asked to ascertain the circumstances that led to the action and mishap.
If police personnel are found guilty, disciplinary action will be taken against them, he added.
