Bhubaneswar: With Cyclone Asani around 50 km from Machlipatnam, its impact could be seen in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday morning. The system may touch the coast near East Godavari-West Godavari border around noon before recurving north-northeastwards slowly, moving along Machilipatnam, Narsapur, Yanam, Kakinada, Tuni and Visakhapatnam coasts and emerging into westcentral Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coasts by night, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast path indicated.
“It is very likely to move nearly northwards for the next few hours and then north-northeastwards along Narsapur, Yanam, Kakinada, Tuni and Visakhapatnam coasts during noon to the evening and emerge into westcentral Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coasts by night,” the IMD said in its latest bulletin.
It is likely to further weaken into a depression by Thursday morning, it added.
Notably, the severe cyclonic storm over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during the past 6 hours and weakened into a cyclonic storm. It is about 530 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 640 km southwest of Puri (Odisha). It is currently moving at a speed of 6 kmph, the MeT office tweeted.

Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over south coastal Odisha.
May 12
Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal.
WIND WARNING
Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is prevailing along and off Andhra Pradesh coast. It is likely to increase and become gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph along & off Andhra Pradesh coast (Krishna, East & West Godavari, Yanam of Puducherry UT and Visakhapatnam districts) during forenoon to afternoon on Wednesday. It would then decrease gradually to 45-55 Kmph gusting to 65 Kmph over the region by May 12 morning.
Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to continue along & off Odisha coast and West Bengal coast on May 11 and 12.
