Balasore: Time and again, individuals have demonstrated how the worst situations tend to bring out the best in people. We have read about such acts in COVID-19 and now Cyclone Yaas.

Amidst the heavy rain and gale that sweeped through several parts of Odisha, bringing down huge trees, an ambulance driver not only responded to the call of duty but also went beyond to ensure safe shifting of a patient to hospital in Odisha’s Balasore district.

An ambulance driver Bhaskar Chandra Sahoo received a frantic call from Sindhia village under Balasore Sadar block on Wednesday requesting for help to shift one Chandrika Pradhan to hospital.

Chandrika reportedly fell unconscious following which her family members called 108. Sahoo reached the village from Ranipatana area.

On their way to hospital, a huge tree felled by the storm had blocked the road. Wasting no time, Sahoo and two other staff of the ambulance Soumya Kanta Biswal and Pradip Nayak cleared the road by cutting the tree with an axe.

They later took the patient to Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH) on time.

Their act saved Chandrika’s life and her condition is now stated to be stable, said sources.
