Mumbai: The Mumbai Customs official have seized gold and diamonds amounting to Rs 6.46 crore and arrested four persons during April 19-21.
Over 6.815 kg of gold valued at Rs 4.44 crore and diamonds valued at Rs 2.02 crore were seized in 13 cases. The diamonds were found concealed in packets and gold in the rectum, baggage and inside undergarments worn by the passengers, the ANI reported quoting officials.
A foreign national, travelling from Colombo to Mumbai, was found carrying 24KT Gold bars and a cut piece, with total net weight of 321 gram, concealed inside her undergarments.
Ten Indian nationals travelling from Dubai (2), Abu Dhabi (2), Bahrain (1), Doha (1), Riyadh (1), Muscat (1), Bangkok (1) and Singapore (1) were also intercepted and found carrying 6.199 kg gold, valued at Rs 4.04 crore concealed in rectum, on body and inside baggage. Three among them were arrested. Similarly, an Indian national travelling from Mumbai to Bangkok was found smuggling the diamonds (natural loose diamonds 254.71 cts and lab grown 977.98 cts) valued at Rs 2.02 crore concealed in packets of noodles inside his trolley bag. He too was arrested and remanded to judicial custody, the Free Press Journal reported.
