Srinagar: In a really commendable job, doctors at a hospital in Anantnag successfully delivered a baby on Tuesday night when a massive earthquake of 6.5 magnitude hit Jammu & Kashmir and several other parts of north India.
The baby was delivered through lower-segment cesarean section.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Anantnag took to Twitter to share a 65-second video of the incident.
Even as the surgeons and other medical staff are at their job, with the pregnant woman on the operation table, everything around them starts shaking with increasing intensity.
Even the lights are seen going off for a few seconds in the strong tremors as the medical personnel chant prayers.
“Emergency LSCS was going-on at SDH Bijbehara Anantnag during which strong tremors of earthquake were felt. Kudos to staff of SDH Bijbehara who conducted the LSCS smoothly & Thank God, everything is Alright,” the CMO wrote alongside the video.
Watch the clip posted by the official Twitter handle of CMO Anantnag:
“We got scared because of the earthquake. Some of the technicians were new joinees. The patient could see the whole incident,” ANI quoted Medical Officer Dr Aliya Vaid as saying.
Though the epicentre of Tuesday’s earthquake, felt around 10.17 pm, was the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, tremors were felt across Pakistan and India as well.
Jammu & Kashmir apart, people in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh experienced the earthquake and a few aftershocks. The quake shook several buildings, forcing terrified residents to rush out onto streets and open spaces.
At least 11 people died in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and over 100 injured people rushed to hospitals.
