New Delhi: After six hours of questioning, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan in connection to a money laundering probe linked to Delhi Waqf Board case. As he was being escorted out of his house by police personnel and ED sleuths, he claimed innocence.
Earlier in the day, ED officials had raided his residence.
Following the raid, Khan had put out a video statement on X, alleging that the ED team had plans to arrest him. “The ED team has come to arrest me on the pretext of a search. My mother-in-law is a cancer patient, she was operated upon four days back. She is also at my home. I had informed this (to the ED),” he said in the video message.
He also claimed that the ED team had been harassing him for two years. The MLA alleged that the probe agency had slapped false cases against him and was harassing the entire party. “Their objective is to break our party. I appeal to the people of Okhla to pray for me and promise that we will get all your work done. Don’t worry, we will not get scared,” he told in the video message.
The video shows an elderly woman lying on a bed as Khan speaks to a man, who is being claimed to be an ED official, on the other side of a mesh door. In the video, Khan is heard stelling that he needs four weeks’ time as his mother-in-law has been operated upon.
To this, the man outside the gate asks Khan that why does he believe that they are there to arrest him. The MLA says, “Why else have you come?”
A woman’s voice is heard saying: “What do you need to search at a three-room house. Why do you have to turn my home upside down every time?” The woman, who is apparently Khan’s wife, threatens the other men in the video—ED officials according to Khan—of moving to court if anything would happen to her ailing mother.
This incident has drawn flak from top AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. They accused the BJP government of targeting those who raise their voice against the ruling party.
