Kolkata: Arijit Singh and Ed Sheeran’s scooter ride video is winning the internet. The pop icon, who is in India for a six-city Mathematics Tour, was recently spotted in the Bollywood singer’s hometown Jiaganj in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
Sheeran rode pillion while exploring Jiaganj dusty roads- from the bustling Phulmore to the relatively deserted banks of the Bhagirathi – with Arijit on his scooty for nearly five hours. They were also joined by a group of people following them on scooters.
The tour, however, extended beyond the scooty ride, as they later embarked on an hour-long boat trip along the Bhagirathi River, departing from Shibtala Ghat. The area’s DIG confirmed Sheeran’s visit and mentioned that the singer had specifically requested for no extra security, as he wanted to experience the town in a genuine and unfiltered way, the TOI reported.
Social media buzzed with excitement and admiration for the duo. One fan humorously remarked, “Bhai usko bhi simple life jeena sikha rahe hai,” suggesting that Arijit was showing Sheeran how to embrace a simpler lifestyle.
Another joked, “Arijit rescuing Ed from Bengaluru police shenanigans,” while many appreciated the laid-back and natural vibe of their outing.
Highlighting the surreal nature of the moment, one fan wrote, “Two of the most goated singers of this generation casually riding on a scooter in Jiaganj.” Another user imagined their friendly conversation, adding, “Arijit Singh to Ed Sheeran be like: chalo aaj hamara gaon dikhata hu tumhe scooty me, ekdam pure natural hawa aayega.”
On Sunday morning ahead of his concert, Sheeran pleasantly surprised fans in Bengaluru with an impromptu performance on Church Street. He, however, stopped by a cop who apparently failed to recognise him. Videos of the police personnel unplugging his microphone had then gone viral.
He has already performed in Hyderabad and Chennai, where Indian composer AR Rahman joined him for a special rendition of the classic song “Urvasi.” His upcoming performances are scheduled to be held in Shillong on February 12 and Delhi NCR on February 15.
Notably, Sheeran and Arijit had bonded in September later when the latter was in London for a concert. They jammed together to each other’s hits, including Sheeran’s popular 2017 track Perfect and a medley of Arijit’s hit songs like Hawayein and Tera Hone Laga Hoon.
