Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital received its first monsoon showers on Friday as rains lashed the city, bringing much needed respite from the sweltering heat.
Light to moderate rain and thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is very likely to continue over some parts of Cuttack district (including Cuttack city), Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Boudh, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Sundergarh, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Bargarh, Keonjhar and Kandhamal during the next three hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar.
The regional Met centre issued the Nowcast warning at 12.30 pm on Friday.
It advised people to move to safer places to avoid lightning strike.
After a brief delay, Southwest Monsoon arrived in Odisha on Thursday.
“Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat state, entire Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, some parts of south Madhya Pradesh, most parts of Vidarbha, entire Telangana, some parts of south Chhattisgarh, and south Odisha, most parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh today, some more parts of Westcentral & northwest Bay of Bengal,” the MeT office said on Thursday.
