As panic spread among passengers, the train was brought to a halt and everyone was deboarded safely, Western Railway CPRO Sumit Thakur said.
No casualty was reported.
The affected coaches were detached from the train before it resumed its journey, added Thakur.
According to Valsad SP Karanraj Vaghela, the fire was most probably caused by a short circuit in the power coach, and spread to the adjoining B1 coach. He added that the fire has been brought under control.
