Ahmedabad: After Uttar Pradesh, now flowers were showered on the people participating in the Kanwar Yatra to Amarnath Dham through drones in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Sunday. ‘Shravan’ month has started in Gujarat from Sunday. It will conclude on September 3.
Last Thursday, senior administration and police officials showered flower petals from helicopters on Kanwar Yatra pilgrims on the Delhi-Dehradun national highway and other places in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Baghpat districts.
This happened a day after flower petals were showered on Shiva devotees from a bulldozer in Meerut.
The district magistrates and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) of the four districts showered petals on the pilgrims from helicopters.
In Meerut, DM Deepak Meena and SSP Vipin Tada showered petals from a chopper at the Augarnath temple, Delhi-Dehradun National Highway, Pallavpuram and the Shivaya toll plaza, according to an Indian Express report.
During the month of Shravan, a large number of Lord Shiva’s devotees travel from various places with ‘kanwars’ carrying holy water from the Ganga to perform ‘jalabhishek’ of ‘shivlings.’ Many believers shun consuming non-vegetarian food during the month. They do not even consume meals containing onions and garlic.
