The race is on to develop the world’s first commercial flying car. And if everything goes according to plan, Slovakian firm KleinVision may emerge as the ‘winner.’
KleinVision recently did the maiden test flight of its AirCar at Piestany Airport in Slovakia, and hopes to offer it for sale some time in 2021.
In a matter of minutes, the AirCar spread its wings during the test flight and converted from a car to an aircraft and soared 1,500 feet in the air, reported HT Auto.
It was reported that AirCar, powered by a BMW 1.6l engine, covered a massive 620 miles (around 1,000 kilometres) in one flight session.
According to KleinVision, AirCar has retractable wings, folding tail surfaces and parachute deployment system. Its aerodynamic fuselage provides enough space for passengers. It requires around 1,000 feet for takeoff.
The AirCar has a 2-seater and a 4-seater version. The Slovakian company is also working on an amphibious version that would be able to find its way on water bodies.
Test rides will continue, with the company working seriously towards putting the car on roads and skies next year.
