Bhubaneswar: Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty on Thursday felicitated Government Railway Police (GRP) constable Balaram Singh for saving the life of a passenger at Bhubaneswar Railway Station the previous night.
He received an appreciation letter and Rs 1,000 in cash at the headquarters of Commissionerate of Police.
According to sources, a passenger fell unconscious after complaining of chest pain at the railway station on Wednesday night. Singh managed to revive him by giving emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, which he had learnt during his emergency training.
The passenger, waiting for train, suffered from chest pain and became unconscious. Singh saw him when he was returning from office after his duty.
He tried to save his life by manual pumping of the heart and blowing air through the mouth. He tried several techniques for near about 10 minutes. At last, Balaram’s effort could bring the passenger back to sense.
The passenger was then rushed to a hospital in an ambulance.
Praises and words of appreciation poured in after a video of Balaram’s selfless service went viral.
He was commended for applying the training at the right time and his presence of mind. Railway ADG Pranabindu Acharya had also awarded also.
