[Watch] Haryana CM Nayab Saini Takes A Sip From Yamuna After Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Poisoned Water’ Claim

New Delhi: The row over Arvind Kejriwal’s claim, that the BJP government in Haryana was “poisoning” Delhi’s water supply through Yamuna river, refuses to die.

In a fresh twist, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday took a sip of water, apparently to prove its purity.

“An unfortunate statement by Arvind Kejriwal was made to create fear in the minds of people for his political benefits. Today, I came here to the banks of river Yamuna and took a sip of water from Yamuna,” Saini said.

Saini accused Kejriwal of having lied “all his life”, and claimed that no poison has been found in the water of Yamuna which was sent for testing.

Kejriwal, who went to the extent of saying Haryana government was committing genocide, had challenged Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to drink Yamuna water in public.

His serious charges have evoked strong responses from BJP and Congress.

The BJP has complained to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for making the ‘false claim’ an election issue and vowed to file a case against Kejriwal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the former Delhi CM was rattled as he feared losing the Assembly polls scheduled for February 5.

Calling Kejriwal’s remarks an insult to the people of the state and the country, PM Modi said, “Are the people of Haryana different from those in Delhi? Are relatives of those living in Haryana not residing in Delhi? Can the people of Haryana poison the water their own people drink?”

The ECI has sought proof from Kejriwal about his “Yamuna poisoning” claim, and asked him to submit his response by 8 pm on Wednesday.
