Jamnagar: Ravindra Jadeja missed the T20 World Cup as he is recovering from a knee injury. And the Team India allrounder is utilising the forced break from cricket to drum up support for her wife Rivaba, who will be contesting the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections as a BJP candidate.
Jadeja has been seen by his wife’s side at all public events as she prepares to fight her first polls — from Jamnagar North constituency.
On Monday, the couple attended an event before Rivaba filed her nomination papers.
“It’s her first time as an MLA candidate and she’ll learn a lot. I hope she will progress in this. She has a helping nature and has always wanted to help people and hence joined politics. She wants to follow the path of PM Modi to work for the people,” ANI quoted Jadeja as saying.
The left-arm spinner also shared a video on Sunday asking for votes for his wife.
“The Gujarat election is here and it’s like a T20 match. My wife is making her grand debut in politics on a BJP ticket. I appeal to the people of Jamnagar and all the cricket lovers to come in large numbers to support her,” he says in the video.
The daughter of an industrialist, Rivaba married Ravindra on April 17, 2016. The couple has a daughter.
Rivaba, who was reportedly actively involved with the Karni Sena, the organisation at the heart of ‘Padmavat’ controversy, joined BJP before the 2019 general elections.
Polling in Gujarat will be held in two phases — December 1 and 5 – with the results to be announced on December 8.
