[Watch] India Successfully Tests Long Range Glide Bomb from Air Force’s Su-30 MKI

Bengaluru: Marking a significant stride in India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully completed release trials of its indigenously developed Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) ‘Gaurav’. Conducted between April 8-10, 2025, the trials were carried out from a Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft and showcased precision targeting at a range close to 100 kilometers.

Developed under the leadership of Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), and the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, the 1,000 kg-class glide bomb is a major milestone in India’s drive for self-reliance in advanced defence technologies.

The tests involved integration of the weapon system on multiple hardpoints of the Su-30 MKI in various warhead configurations. Targeting land-based installations on an island, the bomb demonstrated pinpoint accuracy, validating its operational effectiveness.

Industry collaboration played a vital role in the weapon’s development, with support from Adani Defence Systems & Technologies, Bharat Forge, and a network of MSMEs under the Development-cum-Production Partner model. Certification and quality assurance were facilitated by the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) and the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA).
