Ahmedabad: Work on the ambitious bullet train project is going on in full swing.

India’s first state-of-the-art High Speed Rail (HSR) corridor that is being constructed is the Mumbai to Ahmedabad corridor, a 50-km stretch of which is expected to be launched in 2026.

The first bullet train station which is taking shape in Ahmedabad, at the Sabarmati Multimodal Transport Hub.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to social media to share glimpses of the bullet train station.

The most striking feature is a large mural made with stainless steel depicting the historic Dandi march, one of Mahatma Gandhi’s historic non-violent movements.

The total area of Sabarmati Multimodal Transport Hub is about 1,33,000 square metres, which is being constructed as a twin structure. There will be space for offices, commercial development and retail outlets for passengers.

The high speed project, which will connect the two major financial hubs in western India, will cover 508 km, of which 448 km will be elevated, 26 km through tunnels, 10 km on bridges and 7 km on an embankment.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHRCL) announced last month that nearly 15 per cent of the civil work for Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) station has been completed.

The target for overall completion of BKC station is 2027.
