Cannes: Besides being a platform for some of the most fashionable and head-turning costumes, the red carpet of the annual Cannes Film Festival has also been the stage for protests and strong political statements from time to time.
Iranian model Mahlagha Jaberi recently decided to make a strong statement by wearing a bold dress with a noose around her neck.
Mahlagna caught people by surprise by walking the red carpet in a black bodycon dress by Jila Sabre, with a collar designed as a beige rope attached to her dress in the shape of a noose.
The message at the helm of her outfit was – ‘Stop Executions’.
It was a call to end the executions in Iran, which were triggered by massive protests following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in the custody of morality police for not properly covering her hair. Over 200 people have been executed in 2023 alone.
“Dedicated to the people of Iran,” Jaberi wrote on Instagram along with a video of herself in the dress.
Pictures of her outfit have gone viral on social media platforms, and has been appreciated by netizens.
