Bhubaneswar: Songs of Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer who breathed her last on Sunday, will be played at every public spot, government installation, and traffic signals in West Bengal for the next 15 days.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee also announced that the state would observe a half-day holiday on February 7 in honour of the singer.
Maharashtra government has also declared a public holiday on Monday to mourn her sad demise.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, people joined the funeral procession of Lata Mangeshkar from her ‘Prabhukunj’ residence.
The last rites of the legendary singer will be performed with full state honours at Shivaji Park around 6.30 this evening.
The mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar were brought to ‘Prabhukunj’, her Peddar Road residence, earlier in the day from Breach Candy Hospital, where she died at 8.12 am due to multiple organ failure.
