Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJP MLAs on Monday marched from the Odisha Assembly to the Chief Post Master General (CPMG)’s office here to post a letter addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, in which they questioned his response in the Mamita Meher murder case and demanded answers.

The BJP MLAs said they were writing the letter to the CM as the latter was not attending the House. “We don’t see him in the House, that’s why we decided to write a letter on the Mamita Meher issue and post it to him. Let him come to the House and reply,” a BJP legislator said.

“We are writing this letter to expose your double standards on the issue of woman safety and security,” it states.

In the letter, the BJP refers to the Anjana Mishra rape case and reminds Naveen how he had then demanded the resignation of then Chief Minister JB Patnaik. “Women of Odisha today are feeling as unsafe under the Naveen government as they felt under the JB Patnaik government,” the BJP MLAs said in the letter.

The letter states that Naveen had then alleged that there was a complete breakdown of law and order in the state and women felt completely unsafe under the JB Patnaik government.

The BJP said that if Indrajit Ray, who was seen as close to JB Patnaik, had to resign as the advocate general of Odisha following allegations by Anjana, why can’t Naveen dismiss Dibya Shankar Mishra and order a CBI probe into the Mamita Meher case.

“You (Naveen) had questioned JB Patnaik. You dismissed several ministers in the past for the sake of ethics and principles. What happened to those principles now,” the letter asks, while demanding that the CM sack Mishra and let the CBI probe the case.
