New Delhi: Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu has sent out a powerful message to the male-dominated society: Stop targeting girls on all issues, including the hijab row.
At an interactive session last week, Harnaaz was asked about her views on the hijab issue, which had created a massive controversy in Karnataka recently. Before she responded, the person conducting the session intervened and requested the mediaperson to abstain from asking political questions and stick to her journey and success.
“Let Harnaaz say the same things,” the reporter responded.
The Chandigarh-based model then expressed her disappointment on why girls are always targeted.

“Why do you always target girls? Even now you are targeting me. Like, even on the issue of hijab, the girls are being targeted. Let them (girls) live the way they choose to, let her reach her destination, let her fly, those are her wings, don’t cut them, if you must (cut someone’s wings) cut your own,” Harnaaz says in a viral video clip.

The Karnataka High Court recently dismissed petitions seeking permission to wear hijab in schools and colleges, saying that a headscarf is not an essential religious practice and uniform dress rules should be followed in institutions where it has been prescribed.
Harnaaz became the third Indian to win the Miss Universe crown, when she triumphed at the prestigious beauty pageant in Israel last December.
