New Delhi: Over the years, several batsmen have been dismissed in embarrassing fashion, like handling the ball.
But what transpired at Pakistan’s Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday is beyond bizarre.
With England struggling to avoid defeat in the second Test against Pakistan, captain Ben Stokes was trying his best to avoid the inevitable with a bold approach. Looking to counter attack, Stokes raced to 37 off 36 balls before he had a rush of blood.
Taking one chance too many, the left-handed batter charged at left-arm spinner Noman Ali, and was stumped by Mohammad Rizwan.
In the process, the bat flung out of his hand and flew towards short fine-leg.
The big man that he is, it made for the funniest of sights as Stokes lost balance in a desperate attempt to get back to his crease, and rested on his knee in exasperation.
Watch the video which went viral on social media:
Stokes was handed back his bat by a Pakistani fielder as the disappointed skipper walked back towards the pavilion.
Noman Ali bagged 8 wickets as England were bowled out for 144 in the second innings to hand Pakistan a 152-run victory.
