Jabalpur: A private hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur turned into a towering inferno here on Monday afternoon. At least eight people, including five patients and three hospital staff, have reportedly died.
It was a massive fire which broke out at New Life Multi-Speciality Hospital, located in Damoh Naka area of Jabalpur. Dozens of people have received burn and other injuries.
Social media was flooded with pictures and video clips of thick and blinding smoke billowing from the hospital premises.

“It was a massive fire, and our teams rescued all the people trapped inside the hospital,” Jabalpur’s Chief Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Gaur said.
He informed that the firefighting units have managed to put out the raging flames.
According to initial assessment of police, the fire is likely to have been triggered by a short circuit.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the victims’ families.
