Jajpur: At a time when the government is spending lakhs of rupees for the development of poor, Nagada in Odisha’s Jajpur district which was in headlines a few years back for malnutrition, again represents a picture of neglect.
Children in Nagada, walked 20 km down and uphill to collect rice from a school at Ashokajhara. The children had to walk barefoot on the kuchha road to collect the food.
A local Mantu Das said though the Odisha government issued orders to distribute ration under Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme to students of Class I to VII at their home during the lockdown, the block administration at Danagadi in Jajpur is clearly flouting the norms.
The BDO at Danagadi, Mani Prasad Mishra has ordered an inquiry into the incident. He said the Block Education Officer (BEO) is in charge of the MDM rice scheme. An inquiry will be ordered an inquiry into the incident, he added.
Additional Collector Akshay Kumar Mallick also assured that he will look into the matter and the BDO and supply officer will be asked to inquire into the incident.
