Mumbai: As cases of domestic violence have been on the rise during the lockdown period, actor-director Nandita Das has made a short film to encourage victims to report about the abuse.
The 7-minute film titled ‘Listen To Her’ has been shot at home.
In the film, Nandita Das plays the role of a woman, who works from home while dealing with constant interruptions from her husband and son, until one day, she receives a call from a victim of domestic violence.
Speaking about her film, she wrote, “The film is a spontaneous response to the irony of ‘STAY HOME, STAY SAFE’ for millions of women in India and around the world. It reminds us that speaking up is only possible when women know that there is someone listening.”
The film has been viewed nearly 3,000 times on Instagram and around 5,000 views on YouTube till now.
Netizens are all praise for the film. One user wrote, “Powerful.”
Another user wrote, “Intense. Serious. Urgent. Thank you, Nandita Das.”
“The issue needed some addressing and what a great way to do it,” one more user commented.
The film has been supported by UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women and the South Asia Foundation (Madanjeet Singh Foundation).
