Bhubaneswar: Clad in Sambalpuri saree, tribal headgear and Odissi dance ornaments, Assamese sisters Ankita and Antara Nandy strummed the ukulele as they rendered some folk songs, including Dalkhai Re and Rangabati, from the balcony of their home in Pune.
After a sneak-peek about what to expect from the balcony performance, the sisters went live on Facebook on Thursday evening, all excited about having received the sarees and ornaments from a fan Shibani Panda of Odisha’s Jharsuguda. They had the sibling deities – Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra – to watch over them as they performed the popular folk numbers.
The video was uploaded on Facebook a few hours later and had music lovers going gaga over their look and performance.
“Awesome pronunciation of each word in Sambalpuri and your voices added a sparkle to the lyrics… Not being from Western Odisha region makes it very difficult to pronounce clear Sambalpuri also for Odia’s,” a fan commented.
This was their way to express their love and gratitude towards Odia fans who have been following them diligently on their social media pages.
‘Balcony Concert’ is a project they embarked on to entertain their viewers and fans during the lockdown.
Antara of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs fame has rendered AR Rahman’s single ‘Nis Din’ with Jonita Gandhi. The sisters have also produced a number of videos using cups, chopsticks, tables… as percussion instruments.
