Keonjhar: A newborn girl was rescued from a drain near a health centre in the town on Sunday.
According to sources, one Bhagirathi Mahanta of Tadapur in the district had come to admit the child of his sister in Maternal and Child Health Centre in the town. After the child was admitted to the health centre, Bhagirathi came out and went to the back side of an Aahar centre for urinating.
On reaching a drain behind the Aahar centre, he heard a baby crying nearby. As he looked around, he saw the newborn girl wrapped with clothes lying under the concrete slabs of the drain. He rushed back to the health centre and informed the security guard there.

Bhagirathi along with the security guard and other staff of the health centre rushed to the spot and carefully took the baby girl from out of the drain. Later, they took the baby to hospital authorities who informed the police.
“The baby looked to be a few days old and a clip was still attached to its nuptial cord. It also appeared to be in sound health,” Bhagirathi told the media persons present there.
The police have registered a case and launched investigation to ascertain the identity of the parents of the newborn.
