Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday inaugurated six important projects for tribal-dominated Malkangiri taken up at an investment of Rs 25 crore and said these will further accelerate socio-economic development in the district.
Launching the projects through video conference, the Chief Minister said Malkangiri has always been special to him. “Development of Malkangiri gives me the greatest happiness. I have full faith, the identity of Malkangiri will be brighter in future. It will further strengthen its position on the development map as a leading district in the state,” he said.
The projects unveiled in the day include two hostels for Scheduled Tribe and Caste children studying under ‘Anwesha’ programme. The hostels will accommodate 600 boys and 600 girls.
Biju Patnaik Inter-state Bus Terminal was also inaugurated at Motu Tri Junction. It facilitates transit to the district as well as Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
In addition, a high-level bridge connecting Malkangari to Banda area and Biju Bridge over the Tamsa river at Balimela, a judo academy for sports development and a shelter for children were also launched.
The Chief Minister highly appreciated the rapid development programme being undertaken in Malkangiri and said the people of Malkangiri are connected with development today.
“Your cooperation in development work has always encouraged us. Education and awareness has been spread in the district. Communication has improved. It is good that you are taking advantage of various welfare schemes starting from Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.”
The success of Malkangari’s farmers, Mission Shakti women, students, youth – all have brought a new identity to the district,” Naveen said
Citing the example of Karma Muduli, a girl from Banda Ghati studying in the best government women’s university in Bhubaneswar, Naveen said education brings opportunities and education has brought about this transformation. He advised the students to create an identity for themselves by reading the text.
On this occasion, Chittarakunda MLA Puranchandra Baka and District Council Chairperson Samari Tanglu gave keynote speeches and praised the strong leadership of the Chief Minister for the rapid development of Malkangiri district.
Secretary to Chief Minister (5T) VK Pandian conducted the programme. Secretaries of various departments were present in the meeting.
