Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik was accorded a warm welcome by Ambassador of India to Japan Sibi George and officials of the Embassy on his arrival in Tokyo on Tuesday.
The CM is leading an official delegation to showcase Odisha’s immense potential as an investment destination. This is the third official overseas trip in his 23-year rule. His itinerary includes one-to-one meetings with potential investors, Odisha Business Meet Tokyo 2023 and an interactive meeting with the Odia diaspora in Japan.
Naveen has expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen the relationship between Japan and Odisha and provide an opportunity for both sides to explore avenues of mutual interest. The Chief Minister also conveyed his appreciation for the warmth and hospitality extended by the Japanese government and people towards the delegation and expressed his hope that the visit would contribute to strengthening the cultural ties between the two nations. “The visit of the Chief Minister and the state delegation to Japan is a significant step towards promoting Odisha as a preferred investment destination and fostering closer ties between Japan and Odisha,” an official release said.
With the state looking to strengthen ties with Japan in areas of sports and tourism promotion, Naveen is scheduled to meet Representative Director and President of Nippon Steel Corporation Eiji Hashimoto later in the day to discuss avenues of collaboration between NSC and Odisha.

On April 5, the state government will host the Odisha Business Meet 2023 at The Okura Tokyo, which is expected to be attended by over 200 industrialists, business persons and investors from across Japan and the Indo-Pacific Region. The CM will address the investors and showcase the vast existing and emerging business opportunities in Odisha. In the evening, he will hold an interactive meeting with the Odia Diaspora in Japan.
The following day, the state delegation will make a factory visit to the Kimitsu Steel Works and the R&D centre of Nippon Steel Corporation.
The delegation include Minister of Industries, MSME, and Energy Pratap Keshari Deb, Chief Secretary P K Jena , Principal Secretary, Industries, Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary, E&IT, Manoj Mishra, and Managing Director, IPICOL, Bhupendar Poonia. Beside Secretary to CM(5T) V K Pandian and Special Secretary to CM Vineel Krishna, a business delegation from Odisha, consisting of select industries in the Steel, Aluminium, Textiles, Food and Sea-Food processing, and Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia sectors, is also accompanying the CM to explore opportunities for collaboration with Japanese business houses, a CMO release said.
During the Make in Odisha conclave 2022, Japan was a country partner and the Ambassador to Japan in India participated in the plenary session and had invited Chief Minister to visit Japan.
