Bhubaneswar: Opposing the illegal removal and demolition of residents of Subash Nagar Basti of Dumduma area, a team of Congress leaders led by AICC Odisha in-charge A Chellakumar and OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik visited the protest site to lend our support.
The slum dwellers of Subash Nagar Basti have staging protest against the eviction drive by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation for the last 11 days. Expressing concern over the plight of the slum dwellers,
district Congress president Biswajit Das extended support to the protestors.
Joining Das in extending support to the poor, Chella Kumar said Congress has always protected the poor. “From former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh, the Congress launched a scheme to provide free land to the landless and subsequent housing subsidies. The schemes have since been renamed by the Central and state governments as their own schemes,” he said.
“The party will be with the slum dwellers till justice has been done,” he added.

Patnaik said both the Central and state government are anti-poor and their failures are visible in the rising prices of essential commodities and fuel. “The Congress was with the poor, downtrodden and helpless and will continue to stand with those affected by injustice,” he added.

MLA Suresh Kumar Routray and vice-president Sivananda Rai reassured the slum dwellers of support till justice is provided.
