Cuttack: Odisha’s Cuttack railway station witnessed a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking on Thursday when constable Tulu Behera saved a 44-year-old passenger from falling into the gap after he slipped from a moving train.

The incident took place at 8.05 am. Md Mujahir from Mirjapur in Westbengal’s Uttar Dinajpur attempted to board Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Express bound for Kishanganj even as it started moving. However, he slipped on the steps and came perilously close to being crushed between the platform edge and the train’s wheels.

The on-duty constable immediately sprang into action. Reacting within seconds, he rushed toward the passenger and pulled him out just in time, averting a potentially fatal accident.

Lauding his brave action, Odisha DGP Y B Khurania has announced a reward of Rs 2,500 for Behera. Coastal Security and Railways ADG Arun Bothra also spoke to the constable and complimented him on his courage and presence of mind.
