Malkangiri: Taking advantage of the fear in a family superstitious about the negative impact of malefic planets, two fraudsters decamped with gold ornaments, cash, and other valuables from a house at Jail Line in Odisha’s Malkangiri. They were nabbed on Tuesday.
According to sources, the in-laws of Sridhar Patnaik had brought two priests – Santosh Sahu and Manas Senapati- of Dabu village, who had assured to help him by performing Graha Shanti rituals to prevent a death in the family. They conducted the puja in the bedroom for over five hours. No family member was allowed to enter the room during this period as they had asked Sridhar to ensure minimal interference in the long ritual.
They locked the room after conducting the rituals and warned them against entering it for four days to prevent the wrath of the malefic planets.
Sridhar, however, grew suspicious and opened the door only to find a broken and scattered almirah.
He called the two imposters back to his house, claiming that they were facing some problem, and confronted them. The family then lodged a complaint with Malkangiri police, following which the duo was arrested.
The stolen valuables were seized from their bathroom later, Sridhar informed the media.
