Bargarh: Legislator and former minister Susanta Singh’s philanthropic act of coming to the rescue of an orphaned girl and arranging her marriage with a youth at Jagalpat village under Gaisilet block of Odisha’s Bargarh district has become the talk of the town.
Sources said, Dipali Sandha was living happily with her parents and sister. However, they got a jolt in 2015 when her mother passed away after suffering from a disease. Misfortune struck again in 2020 when she lost her father Ranga Sandha, leaving the sisters orphaned.
The legislator not only bore the cost of the father’s treatment but even got a house built for them with his own funds, while neighbours took care of the orphaned girls.
Later, he arranged Dipali’s marriage and even purchased all wedding gifts. Dipali married Ananda, a youth from a nearby locality as per Hindu traditions with all the villagers present.
“When my father was sick, the former minister Susanta Singh gave us all help and promised to arrange our marriage and he kept his promise,” said Dipali.
Kirtan Das, the founder of Samir Dibyang Trust, said that the former minister got to know of the miseries of the orphaned children after watching a report on Youtube. “He contacted me and asked me to do something for the two girls. He has done a great deed by arranging Dipali’s marriage.”
