Nabarangpur: More than a month after suffering from excruciating pain due to a snake bite, a nine-year-old girl of Balijhar village in Haldi panchayat of Raighar block received help from the district administration on Tuesday night.

Unable to bear the pain the little girl, Manjula had been pleading death.

After getting information on the girl’s plight from local media, BDO, Raighar, Debendra Prasad Bal assured of help and hours later, the CDMO Sobharani Mishra as well as local officials sent an ambulance to the village and shifted Manjula to District Headquarters Hospital, Nabarangpur.

The CDMO said after a check up, the girl was sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack where her treatment will be taken care of.

Informing about Manjula’s condition, the CDMO said after being bitten by snake Manjula’s right hand has developed gangrene from shoulder to fingers, due to delay in treatment.

She was checked by specialists here and then arrangements were made to send her to SCBMCH, the CDMO said and added that the family has been given Rs 10,000 from the district fund and the administration has assured to bear the medical expenses of the child.

It may be mentioned here that a snake bit Manjula’s right wrist a month back while she playing with her brother in their courtyard.

Her parents had immediately rushed to Umerkote hospital and then shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital. From there she was referred to Sahid Laxman Nayak medical college and hospital in Koraput.

“We were told by the doctors of Koraput MCH, where she was kept for three days, to take Manjula to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur where her treatment is possible. As we did not have money or support from administration we could not go to Berhampur,” said the girl’s parents, Sunadhar and Tamani.

Meanwhile, the snake (Naga) which bit the minor girl has been held captive by her family. “We will set the snake free after Manjula recovers fully,” the family said.
