Bhubaneswar: Amidst growing protests in the country against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), actor-turned-politician from Odisha Pinky Pradhan has struck a different note. She has uploaded a video on her social media handles in support of the controversial law.
Countering the thought-provoking verses, songs and poems reverberating across Indian universities, Pinky has come up with an Odia song to expresses solidarity with her party’s decision to come up with the Act.
Penned by lyricist Panchanan Nayak, the song’s music is inspired by the Raj Kapoor hit ‘Dil ka haal sune dilwala’ from the movie Shri 420.
In the video of the Odia song, Pinky spells out the benefits of CAA and also emphasises on how it had turned out to be an eyesore for the rival parties. She is accompanied by actor Anu Choudhury and Nayak.
Speaking to Odisha Bytes, Pinky said it was their way to celebrate CAA and she was amazed to see the response to her video. “It was an impromptu song and I am very happy that people are appreciating it. The song is an attempt to bring to the fore the merits of this amended Act,” she said.
The idea struck her while they were in a meeting to discuss a pro-CAA rally. “We made this video because as Indians. we strongly believe in the goodness of this Act. It is only 2 per cent of the total population that is opposing it,” she said.
Pinky said that it was wrong to view CAA with a political angle as it had given hope to persecuted non-Muslims from three neighbouring countries, who were staying as refugees in India.
The actor had joined the BJP in 2014 and was one of the star campaigners of the saffron party in Odisha during the 2019 elections. The party had also fielded her from Digapahandi Assembly constituency in the last elections, but she lost the battle to senior BJD leader Surya Narayan Patro.
On the other hand, Anu had joined the BJP in 2018. She had also campaigned for the party during last year’s elections.
