Bhubaneswar: One of the two pilots killed in the helicopter crash at the Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur on Thursday night was from Odisha. He was identified as Captain Gopal Krishna Panda. The other pilot killed was Captain A P Shrivastava.
Captain Panda was a native of Baham village in Sambalpur district.
“My family members immediately left for Raipur after we got the news at around 10.30 pm last night. The post-mortem has not been conducted yet. The funeral will be conducted either in Raipur or in our native village,” her niece Swasti Panda told a news portal.
The pilots were trying to land when the helicopter caught fire. There were no passengers onboard.
The helicopter was on a routine training sortie when it crashed at around 9:10 pm.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Chhattisgarh government will conduct an inquiry into the crash.
