Bhubaneswar: In a rare show of courage, a pet cat stood guard to prevent a cobra from entering a house in Odisha capital on Tuesday.
According to Sampad Kumar Parida, staying in Bhimtangi, a 4 feet long cobra attempted to enter his house. On finding the snake trying to slither in, his pet cat pounced to stop it on its track. Though the cobra opened its hood and made a hissing sound to intimidate the cat, the latter did not budge from its place.
Even as the snake changed its course and tried to enter the house from another direction, the cat ran to its front. The stand-off between the two animals continued for around 30 minutes. Apprehending a threat to the life of his cat, Sampad contacted the Snake Helpline.
On being informed, Arun Kumar Baral, a member of Snake Helpline, rushed to the spot and caught the cobra by its tail. Later, he put the snake in a bag without harming it and released it in a forest area.
