Bhubaneswar: Actor-politician Anubhav Mohanty again appealed to his estranged wife and actress Varsha Priyadarshini to peacefully reach a divorce settlement on Tuesday.

Stating that he is shooting the video around 5.30 am, Anubhav said that his father is keeping very unwell and his family has not been able to sleep the entire night. “My father is unable to recognise people because of the side effects of the treatment for his kidney ailment. He is unable to sleep and so also my mother, me and my younger brother and his family,” he said.

The actor-MP reminded her about his October 6 post on X in which he had requested her for a ‘respectable separation’. “We will be challenging the family court’s verdict on my divorce plea. You are also aware how much you are to be blamed for this situation. Despite that I appealed to you on social media, mentioning that though we were unable to stay as man and wife, at least we can remain friends forever by going our separate ways amicably. Instead of replying to my message, you blocked my account,” he said.

Anubhav also urged Varsha to ‘stop the lies and drama’. “I have lost two elder members of my families, I don’t want to lose my father because of my decision to marry you. He is in pain and constantly crying,” he said in his emotional appeal while asking her to accept the divorce.

Anubhav and Varsha have been engaged in a bitter legal battle since 2020. A family court here rejected the divorce petition filed by Anubhav and also dismissed Varsha’s plea seeking restitution of her conjugal rights on September 22 as the estranged couple could not prove their allegations and counter allegations.

Following the verdict, the actress posted a portrait of Lord Jagannath on her X handle and wrote, “Jay Jagannath. Truth always wins.” Anubhav, on the other hand, accused her of hiding the truth by remaining silent.

Six years after their marriage in 2014, Anubhav had filed the divorce petition in a Delhi court  on July 6, 2020, citing non-consummation of marriage. It was transferred to the Family Court in Cuttack on the actress’ plea in the Supreme Court.

On August 7, 2020, Varsha had approached the SDJM court in Cuttack in a criminal miscellaneous case against Anubhav under Section 12 of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. She had accused him of alcohol-related abuse to physical torture and financial bungling. She also demanded a monthly amount of Rs 70,000 towards house rent and maintenance.
