PM Modi welcome in Indonesia

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received a grand welcome as he arrived in Indonesian capital Jakarta to begin yet another three-nation visit.

Fighter jets from the Indonesian Air Force escorted the Indian PM’s aircraft from the moment it entered Indonesian airspace, reported PTI.

On landing in Jakarta, Modi was accorded a ceremonial reception.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was himself present at the airport to welcome Modi in a special gesture.

PM Modi acknowledged President Subianto’s gesture.

“Landed in Jakarta. I’m touched by President Prabowo Subianto’s gesture of welcoming me at the airport. In 2018 we elevated our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has benefitted our people. During this visit, President Prabowo Subianto and I will hold discussions aimed at adding even more momentum to this partnership across diverse sectors,” Modi expressed in a post on X.

Modi further wrote that President Subianto and he will visit Prambanan Temple complex at Yogyakarta to ensure “closer cultural linkages between our nations.”

Local artists presented a traditional cultural display to welcome Modi.

The visit comes months after President Subinto travelled to India as the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

From Jakarta, PM Modi will travel to Australia. The last leg of his tour will be New Zealand.
